Another one not for the awards: One of the ads in a campaign for the national broadcaster's "Pay your television license" campaign. Instead of threatening non-paying viewers with prosecution etc, we thought we would demonstrate with a true story how broadcasting can help people. Siphiwe's story is very sad: Born with severe facial malformation, his mom abandoned him at his grandmother's house. The kids taunted him mercilessly, making his going to school hard for him. His education suffered. A reporter told his story on a Lesedi FM (African Language station), and so the process of receiving help started. The surgeons donated their time, Siphiwe's benefactor (the man in the brown suit) paid for the rest. The money we paid Siphiwe went directly into his trust fund. The shot of Siphiwe's face you see in the last frame is his face after 1 of the 3 massive facial reconstruction operations he was undergoing at the time.

X-files ambient campaign

Mulder from the X-files was my art director's personal hero, so we only did this to please him really. We put the sticker up at the top of the Carlton Centre, where tourists go to see panoramic views of Johannesburg. Cannes 2004 ambient shortlist - but who cares about awards, right?
